About

The Old Dominion has been awarded an AERC Trail Grant to improve a section of the Old Dominion 100-Mile trail, used for the first and last loop of our June Ride!

The majority of the work will be done by Alex Uspenski and his big equipment over the course of three days. We are asking for volunteers for only April 22nd!

Alex will be working to regrade a large section of trail and improve the drainage.

A  big portion of the project will focus on the trail along the lower flat  section of trail between Shrine Mont and the turn that leads up the  climb on the “purple” trail.

There is one  particularly bad section of this trail that is always muddy even in dry  weather. Alex will prep that section of trail on Friday, April 21st.

BUT we NEED VOLUNTEERS (manpower) on Saturday, April 22nd to finish this section

-- to  load rock in a hauler to move to this section to help raise the trail  bed and make it  a more sustainable trail for the future.

-- a second group of volunteers will focus on a muddy section 1/2 way up  the Orkney Springs trail (purple trail) to open up the drainage and  recreate some water bars.

If you are available  and willing to help, we will meet at the Orkney Springs Trail Head  Parking area off Alum Springs Rd (Rt 717) Saturday, April 22nd at 9:30am

Please contact Diane Connolly at DCConnolly24@gmail.com if you plan to come volunteer! (Even if you mentioned coming during No Frills, please!)

You will need:

Good work gloves

Shovel and/or tamping bar (if you have one), if you are working on the upper section of trail.

Alex will complete the project on Sun.

See you there!
